UFC 278 results: Edwards KNOCKS OUT Usman with fifth-round head kick!

In the main event of UFC 278, welterweight champion and pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman faced contender Leon Edwards.

The Birmingham fighter Edwards started strong with a solid first round, but the longer the fight went, the more Usman took over. In the fifth and final round Edwards looked broken, but with a minute left he landed a perfect head kick that floored Usman and the referee immediately stopped the fight.

”Can’t put it to words. They all said I couldn’t do it, look at me now,” Edwards said in the post-fight interview. ”I’ve been down my whole life, look at me now.”

”Look at me now, champion of the world, look at me now,” Edwards said.

In the gruelling co-main event, Paulo Costa and former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold clashed in a tough three round fight. In the end Costa stood as the winner with 30-27 on the judge’s scorecards.

50 000 dollar bonuses

The 50 000 dollar Fight of the Night bonus went to the war between Paulo Costa and Luke Rockhold. The Performance of the Night bonuses went to Leon Edwards and Victor Altamirano, who both banked 50 000 dollars each.
