UFC 291: Alex Pereira edges out Jan Blachowicz in close three rounder

Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz just took on Alex Pereira in the co-main event of UFC 291 in Salt Lake City.

It would end up being a close one, with Blachowicz trying to get the takedown early. While his first attempt was unsuccessful, he would manage to score a takedown and ride out the first round on top.

The tide turned in the third round with Pereira landing great shots on the feet. Fighting at high altitude clearly affected both fighters, who were clearly fatigued.

In the third round Pereira continued pressuring, having an edge on the feet and landing a hard shot that snapped back the head of his opponent. Towards the end of the round the Pole Blachowicz landed yet another takedown, finishing the fight on top.

After three hard fought rounds, Pereira would capture a win via split decision in his light heavyweight debut, defeating Blachowicz in the UFC 291 co-main event.

Jan Blachowicz 29-10-1 came off of a draw against Magomed Ankalaev.

Alex Pereira 8-2 came from a loss against middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in his previous outing.
