Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is not impressed by rising star Paddy Pimblett’s performance against Jared Gordon at the UFC 282 in Las Vegas, Nevada, this past Saturday.
Pimblett defeated Gordon via a highly debated unanimous decision as the judges gave him the win with 29-28 on all three judges’ scorecards, a decision that made fans, fighters and experts see red.
The Liverpudlian recently claimed that he would’ve put up a better fight against Makhachev than Charles Oliveria did at UFC 280. After Pimblett’s fight at UFC 282, Makhachev took a swing at ”The Baddy” on social media.
“If fight happens in Nevada, he has chances to beat me, on the judges scorecards lol,” Makhachev wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
On February 12, Islam Makhachev returns to the Octagon for his first title defence, as he faces dominant featherweight champion Alexander ”The Great” Volkanovski, who moves up a weight class to challenge for the lightweight gold.
This will be the eighth time in promotion’s history that champions in different divisions will clash for the same title.
Also fighting on the card is featherweights Yair Rodríguez and Josh Emmett who will clash for the interim title in the co-main event.
