Gothenburg’s Astrid Vikander is one of the most skilled martial artists around. This weekend the young fighter won double gold medals at the Nordic Open.
“It’s great to be back with wins after being injured,” Vikgren tells Frontkick. “I’ve done the Nordic Championships many times now and it’s always fun as it’s the biggest competition in the Nordic countries.”
The young grappler moved up a weight class ahead of the Nordic Open but that did not stop her at all.
“I competed in a weight class above so a friend could compete in our usual weight, but it was no problem. My dad coached both me and my sister and then everything was easy! My club Conde BJJ did well. Even if we were fewer than usual we showed that Gothenburg is a city to be reckoned with.”
As a competitor in many sports, Astrid Vikgren looks to be a world champion in 2024. As a MMA fighter she’s been representing the Swedish National team in both European Championships and World Championships.
“My plan is to dominate in 2024. I can compete in Muay Thai, BJJ and MMA, whatever we get. This year I want to be world champion, in what sport we will see.”
