Swedish MMA fighters Daniel Bergström and Daniel Karlsson clashed in the main event of last weekend’s Wolf Fight Promotion 5 in Kalmar.
After surviving a submission attempt in the first round, Karlsson defeated the hometown fighter via a second-round TKO.
A few days after the fight however, Bergström filed a complaint to the Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation regarding the loss. In an Instagram post, he explained that when he re-watched the fight he saw that his opponent tapped in the first round due to an armbar attempt.
In a recent interview with Swedish MMA site MMA-nytt, the former Swedish champion Karlsson gave his view of the situation.
“First and foremost I think it’s very sad that this get’s attention. It takes focus from my performance and I never tapped. The referee obviously didn’t see it, and Bergström obviously didn’t react on the “tap”, he tried to fulfill the armbar attempt,” Karlsson said. (Translated from Swedish by Frontkick)
“To tap out and then continue to fight is bad sportmanship and that’s very far from who I am,” Karlsson said.
