Professional Muay Thai is on the rise in Scandinavia as Swedish promotion Muay Thai For Life Series continues to break new ground and gain momentum. And the stakes just got hell of a lot bigger for the fighters scheduled to compete at the upcoming MTFL 4 event in Malmö, Sweden.

The promotion today announced that there will be a total of 50 000 SEK in prize money on the line, which will be split between two bonus-winning fighters each getting 25 000 SEK on top of their contracted fight purse. The bonus winners will be selected immediately following the conclusion of the main event in Baltiska hallen on December 10.

One of the bonus rewards will be for the best performance of the night, and the other for the most spectacular knockout of the night. Käftsmällspodden, a well-known fighting podcast in Sweden, is putting up the prize money as an event sponsor and will select the bonus winners in association with Muay Thai For Life.

“We want to do our part for the growth of the combat sports scene in Sweden,” Andres Viracca, founder of Käftsmällspodden, told Frontkick. “These fighters need to get paid and we hope that our contribution will incentivise them to put it all on the line.

“Käftsmällspodden started a growing trend of giving out performance bonuses on the regional scene in Sweden last year and we are happy to partner up with Muay Thai For Life to raise the stakes even more on December 10. MTFL is a world-class promotion, every event has been a major success and I can’t wait to watch the fighters perform on their upcoming card in Malmö.”

Patrick Thomsen expects ‘epic performances’ at Muay Thai For Life 4

Muay Thai For Life’s CEO Patrick Thomsen, a former Swedish Muay Thai champion, hade this to say in a statement provided to Frontkick:

“As a former fighter myself, I know how much these athletes sacrifice to make a name for themselves in this sport with little to no pay. As Muay Thai For Life continues to grow as a promotion, I want to make sure that our fighters get the compensation they deserve and that we’re really providing a premier platform for them to grow and shine in the eyes of the audience and everyone watching worldwide on DAZN. Recently, we had the pleasure of handing out 10 000 SEK in performance bonuses thanks to our sponsors Förebygg.se, and this time we couldn’t be more happy to announce that we’ll be handing out even bigger bonuses with a total of 50 000 SEK on the line in collaboration with Sweden’s finest fight podcast Käftsmällspodden. I am incredibly grateful to Andres Viracca for his generosity and for everything he and his brilliant crew are doing for combat sports in Sweden and I’m sure these bonuses will motivate the fighters to put on epic performances on December 10.”

At this time, two bouts have been made official for Muay Thai For Life 4. MMA fighter and former Swedish Muay Thai champion Christopher Bajo will compete in the co-main event of the evening where he’ll be taking on rising prospect Mustafa Aboutaka in a catchweight bout. Furthermore, Filiz Demirbek and Livia Nygaard are scheduled to clash in a bantamweight contest.

Undefeated WMC European lightweight champion Nicholas Bryant is also expected to fight on the card against an opponent yet to be determined.
