One of the greatest rivalries in the past years, the two fights between middleweight strikers Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira, thrilled the MMA world in 2022 and 2023.

Now the reigning light heavyweight champion Pereira claims that if the UFC won’t book a third fight, he could even see himself training with his old enemy.

“Anything can happen,” Pereira said on The MMA Hour.

“I’m here. But I think it’s over. I don’t know. I’d even train with him if I had the opportunity. He’s very experienced, he’s done what he’s done, and I’m also very experienced and have been doing many things. It’s two styles that have similar things, but many things different that could add a lot to our games.”

Adesanya vs. Pereira 3 in light heavyweight?

If the two rivals would ever clash again, which many MMA fans would love, it would most likely be in light heavyweight since Pereira probably wouldn’t get down to middleweight and Adesanya could get his chance to become a two-division champion.

“Since I wanted to do this rubber match so much, Adesanya and I — and if he were to move up to light heavyweight, and maybe people said he had to fight once before fighting for my belt, I wouldn’t want that because there’s risk of him losing. How am I going to fight a guy that has lost? No, come straight [at me]. But he showed no interest, so I kind of let it go,” Pereira said.

The Brazilian is scheduled to make his first light heavyweight title defence against former champion Jamahal Hill at UFC 300.
