In a new interview with BT Sport, backup fighter Alexander Volkanovski hinted that the UFC was worried about either Islam Makhachev of Charles Oliveira making weight ahead of the weight-ins.

”Without giving too much away, we got asked pretty late last night ’How is Alex doing?’, so obviously someone was struggling. But I was asleep when that happened, I heard about that this morning,” Volkanovski said.

The dominant featherweight champion is promised to be the next fighter to compete for the lightweight title.

”Obviously it was a commitment, I’ve worked hard to be ready just incase. But I mean all that is worth it since it locked me in as the next guy so,” Volkanovski said. ”It’s good to know that the big boss has agreed that I’m next.”

The dominant featherweight believed that Makhachev might have a slight edge in tomorrows anticipated title fight.

”If I have to lean against someone it’s Islam,” Volkanovski reasoned.

In February next year, the promotion will return to Australia with UFC 284. That’s a card that he wants to face either Oliveira or Makhachev.

”Let’s go. That would be the perfect fight for me to do back home so, as long it’s for a belt I’m happy, if it’s me defending or me fighting for the lot I don’t give a fuck,” Volkanovski told BT Sport.
