The recently announced heavyweight battle between former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former interim heavyweight champion Cyril Gane landed like a bomb in the MMA community.
“Bon Gamin” believes he’s a much more difficult puzzle to solve for Jones than the heavy hitting Francis Ngannou.
“I know I’ve got good footwork at first, I think I’m a little bit more well-rounded,” Gane said. “I look a little bit more like Jon Jones. Yes, when you have a big guy that just wants to kill you with one punch, it’s more easier for a guy well-rounded and smart like Jon Jones to manage the situation.”
“Me, also, I am not like that. I like to manage the situation. It’s going to be really good.”
Jon Jones was a champ when Cyril Gane made his MMA debut
Facing a veteran like Jon Jones is a dream for the French fighter, who made his MMA debut in 2018, seven years after “Johnny Bones” became a UFC light heavyweight champion for the first time.
“He’s the GOAT,” Gane said. “I’m a young fighter, and I think it’s the dream of every young fighter to fight against a GOAT. This is really crazy for me.”
The heavyweight title bout will take place at UFC 285 in Las Vegas on March 4. This will be the first time Jon Jones fights in more than three years.
