Former UFC welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal decided to retire from the sport of MMA after losing to Gilbert Burns via unanimous decision at UFC 287 last Saturday in Miami.

Recently talking on Submission Radio, Masvidal’s biggest rival, Colby Covington, shared his thoughts on the retirement.

”I’m just figuring that out now. That’s interesting,” Covington said. ”If I’m gonna give my honest take, he was retired after I beat him. He’s a broken man. There’s a reason he came out and did what he did in the streets, like a little clown. There’s no pride in that guy. He just didn’t want to have to live the rest of his life knowing that he retired off of getting his ass beat by me.”

Colby Covington claims he retired Masvidal in 2022

The former training partners and friends clashed in March 2022 at UFC 272. A fight that Colby Covington won by unanimous decision.

”Of course he’s gonna come and lose to someone else. He didn’t want that being hung over his head, that I retired him. But guys, I’ll be honest, I retired Jorge Masvidal, ’Street Judas,’ in 2022 at T-Mobile Arena,” Covington said.

A few weeks after the fight, Masvidal allegedly attacked his rival outside a restaurant in Florida.

”I couldn’t care less about the journeyman ’Street Judas’ Masvidal. The guy is a felon, he’s a criminal, a coward. He’s not a real man. If he was a real man he wouldn’t have done what he did to me.”
