The two most successful Irish MMA fighters ever – two-division UFC champ Conor McGregor and top ranked prospect Ian Garry – finally faced each other in a recent sparring session in SBG Ireland.
Undefeated welterweight prospect, and former Cage Warriors champion, Ian Garry has been a force of nature since his UFC debut back in November 2021. During the past two years he competed six times, winning three fights by stoppage and three by unanimous decision. In his last fight he defeated the tough welterweight veteran Neil Magny with a dominant performance over three rounds.
The risig gladly admits how big of an influence McGregor has been for him as a MMA fighter.
“I was the new generation of Irish fighters in the UFC. And obviously, having that inspiration from Conor drove me what I’m here to do. I’m here to do my own career,” Garry said in a recent interview with Severe MMA.
“Because what he did was sensational and the way he did it — in the way he took over the USA and the pandemonium that he caused in Vegas with the fans, and just the excitement. The build of the fights was different than anything we’d ever seen. He changed the game forever. And as a young kid who’s excited by what he did, absolutely, there’s going to be comparisons, but also I’m from Dublin, Ireland.”
