A highly interesting bantamweight bout between top dog Cory Sandhagen and surging contender Umar Nurmagomedov are booked to headline UFC Nashville on August 5.
UFC officials announced the matchup on Thursday.
No. 4 ranked Sandhagen has back-to-back wins against top fighters Marlon “Chito” Vera and Song Yadong, and fought nothing but the absolute elite of the bantamweight division over the past few years.
No. 11 ranked Nurmagomedov, who is a cousin of the former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, has a flawless record to 16-0 with four straight wins in the promotion, three via stoppage.
He made his promotional debut in January 2021 with a second-round submission win against Sergey Morozov.
