Dricus du Plessis stops Robert Whittaker in the second round to earn title shot

Middleweights Dricus du Plessis and Robert Whittaker just clashed in a pivotal fight on the main card of UFC 290.

Du Plessis finished the first round in dominant fashion, and in the second round, the South African took over and eventually finished the former champion via TKO.

“Robert Whittaker, damn, he hits hard,” du Plessis said. “Robert is a gentlemen and a legend of this sport.”

“I told you I have cardio for days,” du Plessis said.

After the win, the du Plessis faced off with a fired upp reigning champion Israel Adesanya in the octagon. The pair has traded jabs on social media, and when they squared off it was a lot of emotions in the cage.

“Easy fight, easy money. Feel me, feel me,” Adesanya said.

The fight is expected to take place in nine weeks at UFC 293 in Sydney on September 10.
