UFC flyweights Casey O’Neill and Viviane Araujo are set to clash at the upcoming UFC 293 in Sydney on September 9. That’s according to MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin, who just reported the matchup.
The flyweight fight is the first reported bout for the event that will be the first of three UFC cards in Sydney over the next few years.
O’Neill returns to action with the intention to avenge her first career loss to Jennifer Maia in March. Before that she won four straight UFC fights.
Araujo has back-to-back losses to Amanda Ribas and Alexa Grasso and is in big need of a win.
UFC 293 will mark the UFC’s sixth visit to Sydney, and first since November 2017.
“Australians are some of the most passionate fight fans in the world and we know these Sydney events are going to be massive.”
“Sydney was the first Australian city to host a UFC Pay Per View, and we are going to bring incredible events every time we come back over the next four years.”
So far no venue or headliner has been announced for UFC 293, however, it’s not impossible that Oceania’s Israel Adesanya, who last competed on April 8 could fight in the main event.
Adesanya defeated his long-time rival Alex Pereira to win back his middleweight championship at UFC 287 in Miami, Florida.
