Saturday’s UFC 296 just took a big hit as Ian Machado Garry has been forced to withdraw.

The pay-per-view main card was supposed to kick off with a highly-anticipated welterweight matchup between Garry and No. 9 ranked Vicente Luque. However, UFC boss Dana White just confirmed that the bout has in fact been cancelled.

“There’s some speculation that Ian Garry and Luque is off. It is true,” White said on X. “Ian Garry started with the flu that turned into pneumonia. So that fight is off and is not happening. It is true.”

Ian Machado Garry was one of the most talked-about fighters on the card

Rumors of the bout being pulled from UFC 296 started as Ian Machado Garry skipped media day. This is obviously a major blow to the promotion’s last PPV show pf 2023, as Garry has been one of the most talked-about stars during the lead-up to the event.

The undefeated Irishman has won six fights in the UFC octagon and gone 13-0 overall at 26 years of age. As of this moment, it’s unclear if the fight with Vicente Luque will be rescheduled and if so when.
