In this past Saturday’s UFC 291 main event, Dustin Poirier took as tough loss as he was knocked out by Justin Gaethje, whom he’d previously got the better of in 2018.

Even though his old teammate didn’t win the BMF belt that was on the lone, former BMF champ Jorge Masvidal enjoyed watching the fight and felt that Poirier was in control of most parts of the incredible first round.

“Great fight. I felt Dustin was dictating the pace. He landed the better shots in the first round. It was all going Dustin’s way. And then the fight game, you know?” Masvidal said during a backstage interview with TNT Sport’s Caroline Pearce. “Justin looked down, came up with a head kick, and caught my boy. It was a perfect kick.”

“Dustin looked in the best shape ever, and obviously he’s my teammate, so I wanted the world for him to win.”

Jorge Masvidal: “I put $100,000 on DP”

Even though he was OK with Poirier’s loss, it put a rather big hole in the wallet of Jorge Masvidal.

“(I made a wager) that I probably shouldn’t have. I put $100,000 on DP, on Dustin Poirier. Kids, I’m sorry, you gotta go to public school now,” Masvidal said.

UFC 291 took place at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the co-main event former middleweight champion Alex Pereira won his light heavyweight debut against former champion Jan Blachowicz.
