Undefeated Swedish strawweight Josefine “Thunder” Knutsson is one of the hottest prospects in Europe right now. On Tuesday she returns to action as she takes on Neatherland’s Isis Verbeek at Dana White’s Contender Series.
In a sit down with Frontkick’s sister site Maximum Sports, the Swedish prospect opens up on her biggest fight to date.
“It’s a huge opportunity for me, and I’m so stoked. I’ve been stoked for a long time, since I’ve known about the fight for three or four months,” Knutsson says. “I was prepared to fight this summer, in May, but when we got this matchup we wanted to get all in.”
Some of the biggest stars in the promotion, like Kevin Holland, Jamahal Hill and Sean O’Malley, got their UFC ticket through DWCS.
“I always have the mindset to do my best in every fight, but this fight has added something extra to the camp,” Knutsson says.
Knutson is a former Muay Thai and kickboxing champion who made her MMA pro debut in late 2021 after just one amateur fight.
“My opponent has a background in striking, both in kickboxing, a bare-knuckle bout, a pro boxing bout, and I’ve got Muay Thai and kickboxing. So I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they matched us. They want an explosive fight. I definitely think it’s a fun fight.”
