Boxing superstar and undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez recently revealed when he is likely to consider retiring from the sport he dedicated his life to.
“I think I’ve got four years more. Five years, maybe. I’ve been in professional boxing since I was 15-years-old. That’s almost 18 years fighting professionally,” Alvarez recently told The Breakfast Club.
During his long and successful career, the 33-years-old Mexican boxer has won multiple world titles in four weight classes – from light middleweight to light heavyweight – including unified titles in three of those weight classes and lineal titles in two.
“I always said 36 or 37, around that age [is when I would retire]. That’s going to be enough, it’s a lot of years in boxing,” Canelo said.
“I’ll have accomplished a lot of things and then I’ll need to enjoy my life with my family and everything.”
Canelo Alvarez is currently in camp for his 64th pro boxing match as he’s set to defend his four super middleweight world titles against the undisputed light middleweight champion Jermell Charlo on September 30.
Canelo comes into the fight with back-to-back wins against Gennady Golovkin and John Ryder after suffering a defeat against Dmitry Bivol in May 2022. Before the loss to Bivol, the Mexican superstar was undefeated for over nine years.
