Just after Alex Pereira was crowned the new UFC middleweight champion, after defeating Israel Adesanya at UFC 281, Khamzat Chimev challenged the Brazilian to a fight, calling him “easy money”.

Recently visiting Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, the champion said that he in fact offered to fight Chimaev at light heavyweight in January at UFC 283, but claimed that Khamzat turned down the fight.

“I went to my managers and said, ‘Look, I just did a hard weight cut, I can’t make 185 for this right now, but tell the UFC I’ll challenge him to fight me at 205 in Rio.’ Chimaev didn’t want it,” Pereira said.

“He’s a big guy, I’m a big guy, let’s do it at light heavyweight so we don’t have to worry about a weight cut. We offered 205 for Rio.”

Khamzat responds to Pereira: “Wtf!”

Responding to the middleweight champion on social media, it seemed like Chimaev did not agree on Pereira’s version of the story.

“Wtf.”

“I aksed them about this fight in Brazil, fake belt fake Coach fake fighter,” Chimaev wrote.

“Don’t be afraid i will finnish you fast alexpoatanpereira,” Chimaev wrote on Instagram.
