The former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is expected to return to the octagon to face Ihor Potieria at the upcoming UFC 283 in Brazil. The bout was first reported by MMA Mania.
This might very well be the last appearance in the octagon for “Shogun”, and what better way to finish a great career than fighting in front of a home audience at the upcoming event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The fight will be Potieria’s second in the UFC after joining the promotion earlier this year. In his debut in July, he lost to Nicolae Negumereanu via a second-round TKO.
“Shogun” is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and Pride Middleweight Grand Prix Champion. He has been competing professionally for two decades, making his debut in November 2002.
The Brazilian light heavyweight made his promotional debut at UFC 76 back in September 2007. So far he competed 23 times in the organization, including fights against Chuck Liddell, Lyoto Machida, Jon Jones, Dan Henderson and Alexander Gustafsson.
