UFC double champion Amanda Nunes has retired from MMA. She’s widely considered to be the greatest female MMA combatant of all time.

After defending her bantamweight strap with a flawless performance against Irene Aldana, the “Lioness” announced that she will hang up her gloves for good.

“I’ve got to spend more time with my family in Brazil as well. I left them so young to come here and chase this dream and everything. It was never a doubt in my mind that I’d become champion. But when I became a champion it was unbelievable – a double champion, as well,” Nunes said in her retirement speech.

The resume of the double champion includes wins over former UFC champs Ronda Rousey, Cris Cyborg, Holly Holm, Valentina Shevchenko, Miesha Tate, Julianna Pena and Germaine de Randamie.

At the UFC 289 post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White commented on the situation.

“I’m not shocked that she retired. I’ve been saying for awhile, she’s made a lot of money and her life is a lot different than it was 10 years ago,” White said.

Just minutes after the retirement, rival Julianna Pena took to Twitter to mock her decision.

“I scared you so bad into retirement. Personally, Congratulations. Professionally, wtf was that,” Pena wrote.

Light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill took to Twitter to congratulate the double champion.

“Congratulations on a legendary and incredible career you are the GWOAT,” Hill wrote.

UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling congratulated the double champion for what she’s done.

“Congrats on an amazing career,” Sterling wrote.

Top ranked welterweight Belal Muhammad showed his respect.

“Great career,” Muhammad wrote. “Your a legend lioness.”

Bantamweight Merab Dvalishivili commented on the win.

“Congratulations great win. Best of luck on your retirement!!”

UFC’s Megan Olivi commented on the retirement.

“Amanda, you are the GOAT. You deserve to enjoy all your time with your beautiful family. Thank you for the fights, the history and for the incredible memories. And personally, for the laughs and support in the private moments as well. See you at your Hall of Fame induction,” Olivi wrote.

Raquel Pennington, who was the backup for the title fight, took to moment to act as matchmaker.

“Me vs Julianna got the world title!!!! Dana always thought from TUF we would face each other at the finale. Wasn’t the journey then but here we are now,” Pennington wrote.
