Welterweights Nate Diaz and Leon Edwards fought in the main event at UFC 263 in June last year. Edwards controlled the fight, but was badly rocked in the last minute of the fight. However, the Brit was able to survive and won the bout via unanimous decision.
Even though Diaz lost the five-rounder, the Stockton fighter claimed that it was the easiest he ever had.
“You got Kamaru, he goes in acting like he’s the GOAT, and he fights three or four title defenses, and then he’s slept on his ass by a guy who I just basically beat,” Diaz said in a recent interview with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. “I was cut and injured coming into the fight, so I just coasted through that fight, it was the easiest fight I ever had, and now he’s the champion. But shout out to Leon for getting the job done. I’m not trying to knock Leon, congratulations.”
Nate Diaz will face welterweight contender Khamzat Chimaev in Saturday night’s main event at UFC 279. It is the last fight on his current UFC contract and it might be the last-ever time we will see the Stockton fighter compete inside the Octagon.
“I’ll fight anybody. But the pressure’s on him, he better finish me, because he’s the next killer in town,” Diaz said.
