The UFC’s debut event in Saudi Arabia was scheduled for March 2 but according to a report Monday from Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Hour” the event will be postponed to possibly as late as June.
The reason?
Saudi Arabia was looking for a better and more high-profile card than the promotion offered.
“I am being told via sources that the planned March 2nd event in Saudi Arabia is being postponed and the target is June,” Helwani claimed. “I was told that the reason for the postponement is because … they want a more entertaining fight card. They want a deeper card with bigger names on it, they weren’t too pleased with what was being offered.”
At the moment, the UFC has yet to announce any changes to the event.
Even though there’s some real good fights in there, especially the flyweight matchup between top 10 ranked contenders Mohammad Mokaev and Alex Perez, the event lacks the star power that some experts expected.
