It looks like UFC will head over to Spain to break new ground in 2024.
According to the promotion’s CEO Dana White, the south European country is a big market and definitely on the radar for 2024. Especially with featherweight title challenger Ilia Topuria being one of the most hyped prospects in Europe at the moment.
“We had heard that [Ilia Topuria] had a huge fan base in Spain. Hunter [Campbell] actually just flew out there and met with him last week,” White told ESPN Deportes’ Carlos Contreras Legaspi. “It’s big. We’ll be going to Spain soon. We know that Spain is a huge market for us, and we know that they love Topuria.”
According to Dana White, UFC Spain will happen whether Topuria becomes the new 145 lbs champion or not.
“No matter how the fight turns out, we’re definitely going to Spain,” White said.
There are currently two Spanish fighters competing in the worlds leading MMA promotion. Besides featherweight title contender Topuria, the country is also represented by submission expert Joel “El Fenomeno” Alvarez who competes in the lightweight division.
The 30-year-old holds a 5-2 promotional record and comes from a win against Marc Diakiese.
