It looks like newly crowned middleweight champion Sean Strickland has his work cut out for him.
According to UFC president Dana White, undefeated star Khamzat Chimaev’s recent win over former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman grants him a shot at the middleweight gold.
However, Strickland is not very impressed by Khamzat’s way to a title shot.
“The only thing I like about Chimaev is that he sells fights. For some reason, people fucking like him or don’t like him. I don’t know. To me, he’s a fucking paycheck. He sells a lot of fights. People pay to watch, but he fucking hasn’t earned it,” Strickland recently said on UFC Fight Pass.

Many fight fans and experts believe No. 2 ranked Dricus du Plessis is the most deserving of a title shot in the stacked division. With an unbeaten eight-fight winning streak in the promotion, coming off a TKO victory over former champion Robert Whittaker, the South African has arguably done enough to fight for middleweight gold.
Strickland never mentioned who he would rather fight, however, he’s happy about facing Chimaev for financial reasons.
“He hasn’t fucking deserved it, but here we are. Give it to him. He sells a lot of fights. I’ll go fight the fucking man for five rounds. But no, he’s not earned it. He doesn’t fucking deserve it. Getting a decision with a welterweight off the couch is not fucking earning it.”
Sean Strickland won the middleweight title in September as he defeated Israel Adesanya after five rounds of action.
