He is the backup for the hyped bantamweight title fight at UFC 299

UFC 299 backup fighter

The UFC 299 title fight between bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley and challenger Marlon “Chito” Vera is one of the most anticipated of the year so far.

Several sources report that if something would go wrong leading up to the fight, No. 1 ranked Merab Dvalishvili will be ready to step in as a replacement.

Dvalishvili is currently riding an impressive 10-fight winning streak and comes from a unanimous decision win against former two-division champ Henry Cejudo. The fight took place a few weeks back at UFC 298. The Georgian bantamweight has three consecutive victories over former UFC champion.
