This past Saturday, Ireland’s Ian Garry took his biggest win in the UFC as he stopped the experienced Daniel “D-Rod” Rodriguez with a first-round TKO.
The win was Machado Garry’s fifth straight in the promotion, and it’s hard to not compare the undefeated Irish prospect with UFC star Conor McGregor
“He looked awesome tonight. Obviously, he fought a guy very durable, dangerous, and a prospect in his own right,” UFC president Dana White said about the 25-year-old’s performance.
“That’s why we build these types of cards, especially the main events. He looked awesome tonight. He’s super confident, and that kid’s ready to take over the world. Came back and talked to him tonight, and he’s down for whatever, whenever, wherever. He’s fun.”
White is impressed by the young fighters desire to face the best in the welterweight division.
“You know what he said to us tonight? He said, ‘I want to beat all the top guys in the top 10. I want to beat all the guys in the top 5. I want to make sure there’s no question that when I fight for the title that people know I deserve it.’ That’s a fun guy. He’s fun,” White said.
The UFC president claimed that Ian Garry could be back in action in Boston later this year.
“We have the Irish guy blueprint around here. So, we’ll probably take him to Boston, or MSG, and then eventually Ireland if he keeps doing what he’s doing.”
Conor McGregor: “A force to be reckoned with”
A few weeks back, Irish superstar Conor McGregor also praised the upcoming welterweight prospect, who in many ways walks in his footprints.
“He is a force to be reckoned with. He’s tough, he’s durable, he’s skillful, he’s long, he’s range. I’d love to see him rise up and win a world title” McGregor said talking to Ariel Helwani.
