WBC Champion Ellis Barboza has fought as a pro since 15: “I haven’t looked back!”

Muay Thai figher Ellis “El Jéfe” Barboza has been a professional fighter since fifteen years of age. With a WBC European Championship to his name, the UK fighter one of the absolute hottest Muay Thai prospects in Europe.

In his last outing he defeated Alex Kenton via unanimous decision for the WBC title at 53.5kg.

In an exclusive interview Frontkick’s Vidar Redmond, the 23-year-old fighter reveals how he started his successful Muay Thai journey.

“I started when I was twelve. My mom pushed me into it more for self defense. I never really had the intention to fight,” Barboza said. “It was actually kickboxing I started in, like freestyle kickboxing. One of my friends trained in a Muay Thai gym so he told me to go along one time, which I did and I enjoyed it, and from the moment I was just in Muay Thai.”

Ellis Barboza was hooked from the start

As a kid stepping into the gym, Ellis Barboza soon got addicted to the intriguing world of Muay Thai.

“I really loved the way the techniques were, kicking pads and the routine,” Barboza said. “From there I just started fighting at a low-level in the UK, like amateur junior level and just progressed to professional when I was fifteen and from that point I haven’t looked back, it’s been my life.”
