Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou just stepped into the ring for the first time as he took on heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury in a non-title fight at the Riyadh Arena, Saudi Arabia.
After the massive opening ceremonies, with music artists like Lil Baby and Becky G, and the national anthems of Saudi Arabia, Cameroon, and the UK, the fight finally took off.
Fury was clearly the better boxer from the startwith his technical boxing and great footwork, but in the third round, he found himself knocked down by Ngannou’s heavy lead left hand. However, the Brit got up and worked himself back into the fight with a stiff jab that the former UFC champ had no answer for.
The latter rounds belonged to the “Gypsy King” who eventually stood as the winner via split decisio after then rounds.
Even if he took a loss, Francis Ngannou just went the distance with the lineal heavyweight champion in his professional boxing debut.
In the co-main event, Fabio Wardley stopped David Adeleye to win the British WBO European, WBA Continental and Commonwealth heavyweight championship. Wardley won the fight via a seventh-round TKO.
