[ENGLISH] Alejandra Lara fights for the Superior title – with the UFC star coach in her corner

Former Bellator title contender Alejandra Lara is back in another title fight — and this time, it’s on Swedish soil! On May 31, she will challenge for the bantamweight title at Superior Challenge 28 in Stockholm, and in her corner is none other than Francisco Grasso – the coach who led Alexa Grasso to UFC gold and was named Coach of the Year 2023.

Bellator veteran Alejandra ”Azul” Lara has competed on some of the biggest stages.

With title fights in Bellator against names like Ilima-Lei Macfarlane, the Colombian star knows what it takes to perform when the spotlight is on her, and now she has her sights set on a new belt!

On May 31, Alejandra Lara will challenge the talented Spaniard Aitana Alvarez for Superior Challenge’s vacant bantamweight title – a belt previously held by Swedish UFC veteran Lina Länsberg.

For Lara, the Superior Challenge title bout means a chance to add another title to her growing resume. She has fought for the title in Bellator, recently won the Budo Sento Championship belt, and is coming off a tough fight in Invicta FC.

She was booked to make her GFL debut in May against Aspen Ladd, but pivoted to Sweden when the organization canceled their events.

She hopes to return to Colombia with the Superior belt and more opportunities. Many Swedish fighters have gone from Superior to UFC, and Lara feels good about her upcoming title bout.

– I have a strong feeling that when I win this belt in the Superior Challenge, a really big opportunity will come my way. That’s what I’ll show — that I’m ready for the highest level! I have an open mind and an open heart for whatever comes, Alejandra Lara tells Frontkick.

Lara comes to Sweden with Francisco Grasso in her corner—the acclaimed Mexican coach who, in 2023, led his niece Alexa Grasso to a historic victory against Valentina Shevchenko and the UFC flyweight title.

– Having Francisco in my corner is incredible. I’ve been training with him for almost ten years now, here in Guadalajara, and he has given me tremendous support throughout my career.

– We have a strong team, and I look forward to representing Lobo Gym in Sweden.

Francisco Grasso was named Coach of the Year 2023 by MMA Junkie, after a year in which he not only helped Alexa Grasso to UFC gold but also pushed several other fighters to the top.

One of them is Diego Lopes, who became one of the UFC’s hottest names after his sensational debut on short notice against Mosvar Evloev.

The fight was named ”Fight of the Night” and was followed by a spectacular submission win against Gavin Tucker and a brutal knockout against Pat Sabatini, both of which were rewarded with bonuses.

Grasso has played a crucial role in Lopes’ development, taking him from the regional scene to a UFC title fight.

After five straight wins over opponents like Dan Ige and Brian Ortega, Lopes was given the chance to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the UFC featherweight title in April 2025.

Lopes lost the title bout but won another UFC bonus and remains top-ranked in the division.

Another Lobo Gym standout, Irene Aldana, has also challenged for UFC gold. In June 2023, she faced then-champion Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight title in Nunes’s last fight before retirement.

And the list doesn’t end there.

Under Grasso, Loopy Godinez has made a name for herself as one of the UFC’s most active fighters in recent years, while other names like Alessandro Costa have made it all the way to the UFC and established themselves in the world’s largest MMA organization.

Lobo Gym has quickly become a global force, not through hype but through results. Now the question remains: can they add a Superior belt to their already impressive collection of successes?
