A pivotal headline bantamweight bout, between No. 2 ranked Petr Yan and No. 3 ranked Merab Dvalishvili, is in the works for a UFC Fight Night event that takes place in Las Vegas on March 11.
Las Vegas Review Journal was first to report the fight and Dvalishvili’s manager Oren Hodak recently confirmed the matchup. According to reports, both bantamweights verbally agreed to fight, but no contracts are yet signed.
Former champion Petr Yan had a rough run lately, with just one win in his past four outings. In his last fight, he lost a decision to Sean O’Malley at UFC 280. The entertaining bout was highly entertaining and many believed that Yan got robbed of the win.
Merab Dvalishvili rides an eight-fight promotional winning streak that includes names like John Dodson, Marlon Moraes and Cody Stamann.
In his last outing at UFC 278 in August, the 32-year-old defeated legend José Aldo via unanimous decision.
Also announced for the March 11 Fight Night are bantamweight bouts between Mario Bautista and Guido Cannetti, as well as Raphael Assunção and Kyler Phillips.
