UFC on ESPN 62 just went down at the Apex in Las Vegas.
In the middleweight main event, No. 5 ranked former title challenger Jared Cannonier took on Brazilian No. 12 ranked prospect Caio Borralho.
Borralho was able to dig deep when he needed it most and eventually picked up the biggest win of his career. All three judges scored the fight for the Brazilian, with the official scores being 49-45, 49-45, and 48-46. With the win, he moves to 7-0 in the UFC and is looking to climb the rankings big time.
“Tuesday, my name better be in the top five,” Borralo said in his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping. “I’m the new face (of the middleweight division), even with some scratches.”
Former title challenger Cannonier has now lost two straight fights.
The promotion only gave out two bonuses at the Apex. The two Performance of the Night bonuses went to Michael Morales, who stopped Neil Magny in the first round, and veteran Gerald Meerschaert, who submitted Edmen Shahbazyan. Both fighters bagged $50.000 each.
