Swedish boxer Linn Sandström will be back on her home soil for her next fight.

On October 12 she will take on Carla Camila Campos for the WBA International Title at Jacy Hotel in Gothenburg.

”I’m so excited to compete in Sweden,” Sandström tells Frontkick in an exclusive interview. ”I fight all over the world but I’m not used to being the hometown fighter. It will be awesome!”

Even though her Bolivian opponent just has seven pro bouts she is a tough opponent for anyone.

”I’ve had my sight on her for a long time,” Sandström explains. ”When I got my first ranking I took her spot. She will be a hard opponent for sure, she will walk forward and pressure me. It will be a great fight.”

With the WBA Inter Continental, WBA Asia, WBC Australasia titles to her name, Sandström has been at the top of boxing for a long time. Winning the WBA International Title in October will give her a chance to challenge for a World Title again.

”The International Title is just below a World Title. If I win this belt I will put myself in a great position to fight for a world title next.”

Gruelling 16 week fight camp

The fight against Campos is seven weeks away, but Sandström has already been in camp for nine weeks. Next up is four weeks of sparring in Mexico as a way to prepare for the pressure of her opponent.

”Mexican boxers are so tough. We will spar with some world champions over there. I’ve been there before and it’s so tough. That’s the only place I’ve been dropped in sparring,” Sandström laughs. ”I kinda look forward to it but it will definitely be tough.”

Linn Sandström has no time to lose

Back in April, the Swedish boxer challenged Argentinian WBA super flyweight world champion Clara Lescurat, but fell short via unanimous decision.

Many fighters would do a couple of tune-up fights after losing a title bout, but Sandström wanted to get back on track with a big fight straight away.

”We want to fight for a World Title. If I face Lescurat again I will beat her,” Sandström says. ”There’s no time to waste, really. We want the big titles and when we got the offer to fight for the WBA International Title we immediately accepted.”
