Undefeated boxing world champion Patricia Berghult was supposed to defend her WBC super welterweight title against Cecilia Brækhus on August 13.
However, the fight got postponed, and now it’s just announced that Berghult will fight a world title unification bout against Natasha Jonas on September 3 instead. The Swede holds the WBC title, while Jonas puts her WBO super welterweight title on the line.
Speaking to Frontkick, the undefeated Swedish boxer commentates the bout and new opponent.
“It will be a lot of fun. Sky Sport is one of the biggest actors in boxing, so it will be great to fight in such a big event and arena,” Berghult said. “I’ve been watching Jonas for a while, we were amateurs at the same time, in a similar weight class. As a pro she fought in lower weight classes but got the chance to fight for the WBO title.”
Even though the fight against Brækhus was postponed, Patricia Berghult did not stop training.
“We’ve been training the whole time for Colombia, but now we switched focus to England. We were ready for August 13, but it’s just a few more weeks until September 3,” she told Frontkick.
In November 2019, the 28-year-old Swede won the interim WBC title when she defeated the tough Hannah Rankin, and two years later, she earned the vacant WBC belt with a solid performance against Olivia Belkacem.
Her opponent Natasha Jonas fought in super featherweight and lightweight, but won the WBO title in super welterweight when she defeated Christian Namus in February.
