Carlos Eduardo de Azevedo Barboza to face Fernando Flores at Superior Challenge 29
Carlos Eduardo de Azevedo Barboza returns to Sweden for the third time as he takes on Fernando Flores at Superior Challenge 29. The MMA veteran says he has a lot of respect for the Swedish icon but also promises a big surprise once the cage door closes!
When Fernando Flores steps into the cage for the last time, it will be a night filled with emotion. Not only for him but also for his opponent Carlos Eduardo de Azevedo Barboza, who feels honored to share the cage with “El Toro.”
Although “Teto Terranossa” Barboza respects Flores deeply, his goal is to return to Spain with a victory in what might also become his own final appearance in the cage.
Officially, Barboza has fought over 50 professional bouts, but his true experience extends far beyond what’s recorded on sites like Tapology.
He has competed all around the world, fought in numerous countries, and shared the cage with top-tier opponents, including UFC fighters such as Elves Brener, Aoriqileng, and William Gomis. Swedish fans may recognize him from his clashes with Tobias Harila and current Superior champion Bartosz Wójcikiewicz.
Lately, Barboza has mostly served as a mentor to his teammates, but when the opportunity to face Flores arose, the competitive fire reignited. The same fire that once pushed him into the cage for the first time.
– ”What got me interested in fighting Fernando Flores is that we are both veterans. It’s hard to find fighters our age to compete against, and that’s what made me retire from competition in the past,” Carlos Eduardo de Azevedo tells Frontkick.
– ”I feel lucky to share this moment with Fernando, because he is a warrior and has given a lot to this sport.”
Carlos Eduardo de Azevedo made his MMA debut in 2013 and estimates his total to be over 70 bouts. He insists that the drive to compete is still alive.
– ”What motivates me to compete at this level is to share the cage with other veterans, where we can match our experience and test our skills!”

Carlos Eduardo de Azevedo says he has competed in over 70 matches worldwide

Carlos Eduardo de Azevedo Barboza: ”Swedish fighters compete with a lot of heart”
Even though he has competed everywhere, from small local events to major international arenas, Carlos Eduardo de Azevedo says he continues to evolve as a fighter.
He is on the mats daily and claims few can match his level of experience, something he believes will play a key role against Fernando.
– I have fought all over the world against fighters of a very high level and I know that experience will have a big impact on the fight. We have adapted and added a lot of new things to our fighting style, and I think that will also have a big impact.
When he speaks about Swedish MMA, his respect is clear. He has faced several Swedish fighters and is impressed by the level and mentality coming from a small combat-sports nation.
– ”I see the Swedish MMA scene as a global force. Swedish fighters compete with a lot of heart!”
Ahead of his clash with Flores, Barboza feels both calm and determined. He says he shares something with “El Toro” Flores, a pure love for fighting and competition.
– ”Fernando Flores is an aggressive fighter who fights with all his heart, but he will face a ’Teto Terranossa’ who is very hungry to compete and is really eager to return to the cage. The preparation has been the best so far, and every day I get more excited to measure myself again. I respect him a lot, but he is in for a big surprise!”
When both veterans step into the cage at Annexet in Stockholm, it’s all about respect and love for the sport, but only one can leave as the winner. Carlos Eduardo de Azevedo is confident it will be him.
– The fans at Superior can expect a real war between two fighters who will leave it all in the cage!
