Swedish MMA prospect William ”Laser” Swärd is a red-hot fighter on the Scandinavian amateur scene.

As the newly crowned Wolf Fight Promotion amateur lightweight champion, ”Laser” will defend his strap for the first time as he takes on Benjamin Hajijan on Saturday’s WFP 9 in Kalmar.

Talking to Frontkick, the Växjö Titans fighter is happy to return to action again.

”It will be fun as hell, the fight has a bit of hype and a lot of people are writing me about it,” Swärd says. ”Benjamin a great fighter, no doubt about it. His record speaks for itself.”

Swärd won the lightweight belt at WFP 8, after stopping Joel Jensen with a second-round TKO on September 30, but had no problem returning to action just two months after the win.

”I didn’t take any damage really, so my body felt good and I’m in great shape. I just jumped straight back to camp,” Swärd says. ”Wolf asked if I was interested in fighting in Kalmar, just an hour from my hometown, and they asked if I wanted to face Benjamin and I said yes right away.”

Wolf might go to Växjö in 2024

With just over 70.000 habitants, Växjö is known for their splendid hockey team and internationally acclaimed heavy metal scene.

According to William Swärd, the MMA scene is also blooming, with Växjö Titans as the leading force.

”We’re a small club and don’t have that many active fighters, but we work with the tools we have and we have a good collaboration with Johan Åkerberg. My camps are built around me and I go to places like Stockholm, Copenhagen and Halmstad for sparring. I don’t need to move to another club.”

”I hope we can get a Wolf Fight Promotion event in Växjö next year. Sports is huge here and we have all that it takes to make it the best Wolf event ever.”

It was recently announced that William Swärd has signed with rising Swedish management Viracci Sport Management.

”I clicked with Andres Viracca from the start and we had good contact for quite some time,” Swärd says. ”Käftsmällspodden has supported me in my camps too, so when Andres started Viracci Sport Management he got in touch with me, and now we work together. He knows what I need and I think we will have a great exchange. It will be fun, he’s got good connections and will help me a lot.”

With four straight TKO wins and a Swedish Championship gold medal in B-class, the Wolf lightweight champion is on a roll. With Viracci Sport Management backing him up, and a new collaboration with RDX, Swärd feels like he’s ready to go pro in 2024.

”I think I will be able to take the next step in my career. I’m at the top of the Nordic amateur MMA scene, and next year I will go pro. However, right now my only focus is to defend the belt. I’m at a good place with my training, the club and I got momentum, that’s why I took the fight in Kalmar.”
