Joe Rogan slams Alex Pereira’s extreme weight cut: ”Sanctioned cheating”

On November 12, the day Alex Pereira stepped into the cage at Madison Square Garden to challenge Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title, he weighed 211.4 pounds (95.6 kg). The day before, the massive Brazilian weighed in just under the middleweight limit of 185 pounds (84 kg).
In a recent episode of his podcast, UFC commentator Joe Rogan claimed that Pereira could have been as heavy as 220 pounds during the fight.
“He certainly gets above that in-between fights. And he has a hard time making 185, Rogan said ”It’s a bulls— thing. It’s basically sanctioned cheating. It really is. But everybody does it.”

Rogan claimed the huge weight cut eventually will be a problem for the newly crowned middleweight champion Pereira, who is big compared to light heavyweights as well.
“He’s so big for the weightclass, which really wears you out, that weight cut,” Rogan said. “It’s a big weight cut. And with wrestling, he’s gonna have issues. Because he’s not a grappler, that’s not his forte. And he’s getting better at grappling, but when Izzy takes you to the ground and Izzy controls you, that’s not his forte either.”
At the moment, there is no word on who Pereira will face in his first title defence. However, both Adesanya and No. 3 ranked welterweight Khamzat Chimaev want to get a shot at the 185 title.
