Mica Galvao, the youngest-ever International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation champion, has been suspended by USADA after testing positive for banned substances.
The 19-year-old Brazilian tested positive for lomiphene and its metabolite 4-hydroxyclomiphene and will therefore have to serve a one-year suspension before being allowed back to competition.
USADA revealed the news in a statement.
”Galvão’s one-year period of ineligibility began on July 22, 2022, the date his provisional suspension was imposed. In addition, Galvão has been disqualified from all competitive results achieved in competitions sanctioned by the IBJJF, or any Code signatory, on and subsequent to June 5, 2022, the date his positive sample was collected, including forfeiture of any medals, points, and prizes. IBJJF has agreed to impose the sanction.”

Mica Galvao: ”This mistake happened and I accept it”
Following the suspention, Galvao took to Instagram to release a statement of his own.
”You all already know the news and I want to explain my version now. My doctor used a substance prohibited by Usada in my treatment. My father and I have always tried to approach the best professionals to help my career and, unfortunately, this mistake happened and I accept it.”
The 19-year-old has also been stripped of his 2022 world title.
”I’m going to start from scratch again, it’s never been easy for me and it won’t be. I come from Manaus, where opportunities are few. I fought a lot to get where I am. I don’t mind tracing that path to the top again, my journey doesn’t end here, it’s just begun. You will see me many times on the mat in 2023.”
