Sweden’s Patricia Berghult (17-1) is up for a big championship fight next.
Justa few weeks from now, she will challenge WBC Interim super lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron (19-1) in Birmingham.
The pairing clashed as amateurs back in the days, but the upcoming interim title fight is of course a whole other thing.
”It will be super fun,” Berghult tells Frontkick in an exclusive interview. ”It will be great to fight in a big title bout.”
Two years ago, Berghult fought the biggest fight of her career as she took on Natasha Jonas, with each champ putting her super welterweight world title on the line. The Swede eventually lost on points and after 15 straight wins, her first professional loss was a fact.
Two years and two wins later, she is set for her perhaps toughest test to date.
”When I met Natasha Jonas I was a champion. This time I’m the underdog, so all the pressure is on Cameron. I’m just going to enjoy the moment and the spotlight and then we’ll see how it turns out. She is a fierce boxer but she is not impossible to beat. We are both technical fighters, so it will be a good match. Against Jonas, I was booed by 11,000 people and it will probably be the same this time. But I will try to just enjoy the moment.”

”Chantelle is a huge star and a great boxer”
Cameron is a former world champion in two weight classes, including the former undisputed light-welterweight champ.
Her sole loss came in the rematch against Katie Taylor in November last year. A few months back, she defeated Elhem Mekhaled to lay her hands on the vacant interim WBC female super-lightweight title.
”Chantelle is a huge star and a great boxer,” Berghult says. ”If you want to be the best, you have to face the best.”
Patricia Berghult moved down in weight
Even though she’s an underdog, Patricia Berghult knows what she’s capable of in the ring. Quicker and lighter, she feels she still packs a punch in her new, lower weight class.
”I have height and reach on my side and I’ve got good movement. I don’t box the same way as Katie Taylor but like to stay on the outside. We will look at videos and other opponents she faced to prepare. It is always important to have a plan B. I will have the entire alphabet as a backup,” Berghult laughs.
”Everyone is pretty even in the top. The fights are more close up there, so it should be a fun one. It is a good test to see where you stand as a fighter. Especially in a new weight class.”
