Sources: Khamzat Chimaev has huge fight in the works for October

After nearly a year since their intense confrontation, a bout between undefeated Swedish sensation Khamzat Chimaev and former middleweight title challenger Paulo Costa is now in the works.

Sources close to Chimaev confirmed the plans for Frontkick.online chief editor Sebastian Vendel-Martinez this morning. While nothing is signed yet, a middleweight match up between Chimaev and Costa is being targeted for UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, October 21st.

Chimaev and Costa ran into each other at the UFC Performance Institute last year, which led to an intense confrontation in which they had to be separated. Since then fans have been clamouring for a fight between them, yet nothing has materialised.

Khamzat went on to bulldoze Kevin Holland, securing a first round submission win at UFC 279. Costa, on the other hand, hasn’t competed since a unanimous decision victory over former champ Luke Rockhold in August of last year.

’Costa was scheduled to face Ikram Aliskerov at FUC 291 next weekend, but has since pulled out of the fight, most likely to be replaced by Roman Dolidze.

While nothing is set in stone, Khamzat vs Costa is undoubtedly one of the biggest and hottest fights the UFC can make at the moment – and will surely set the Ethihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on fire with excitement if it’s made.
