PFL Africa has officially launched and joins PFL Europe and PFL MENA as part of the MMA promotion’s regional leagues. Top African fighters will compete at the cards, with all events hosted on the continent.
Just like the other leagues, PFL Africa will feature a regular season followed by playoffs and is set to launch in 2025.
Swedish PFL fighter Sadibou Sy, who has roots in Senegal, is proud of being a part of the organization’s expansion. He took part in the press conference and talked about the impact that PFL will play in the region.
”It’s amazing to be here. Amazing to be a part of this,” Sy said. ”It feels real to be honest. Just heard about it a couple of years ago and now we are finally here. Going to launch. This is amazing. The sport is going to grow.”
”I’m definitely going to fight in Africa,” Sy said with a smile. ”And we are going to Dakar as well. I will definitely tell the PFL that we need to go to Senegal.”
Sadibou Sy: ”You are going to be able to fight”
After winning the PFL welterweight title back in 2022, Sy went to Senegal in order to inspire people.
”It was very important to me to go back to Senegal,” Sy said at the press conference. ”A lot of people asked ’how can I follow your footsteps? What can I do?’. I was struggling to give them a straight answer. I’m so proud of today being able to say that ’we have PFL Africa’. You are going to be able to fight, you are going to be able to earn your way, you are going to be able to compete, you are going to be able to become a world champion one day.”
