Frontkick’s Tobias Lindkvist talks major and minor events from this past week in the Sunday Column.

1. US start time in Manchester

What the hell is up with UFC putting the Manchester card on US prime time?

It’s a slap in the face of the crowd in the arena as well as the thousands and thousands of European MMA fans streaming the card. It’s also a slap in the face to the fighters, forcing them to compete in the middle of the night, especially the two UK champions Leon Edwards and Tom Aspinall.

The UK is such a stronghold for the UFC, why can’t the promotion show the fans the respect they deserve?

2. Olympic boxing

We are up for some mighty fine boxing in the next couple of weeks!

One of the most exciting boxers in Paris is Cuba’s Julio Cesar La Cruz who aims to lay his hands on a third-consecutive Olympic gold medal at 92kg.

3. The sensational Tara Babulfath

At just 18 years of age, Tara Babulfath won the first-ever Olympic medal in Swedish judo history. What a performace! The future is yours, Tara!

4. Superior Academy

Superior Academy, the brainchild of Swedish combat sports entrepreneur Andres Viracca, have announced a bunch of exciting bouts for the upcoming first event on September 14.

The return of heavyweight Nermin Hajdarpasic and the MMA debut of two-sport champion Freddy Castro should get fight fans all over the country excited!

I can’t wait to see what more matchups we will get in the next couple of weeks!

5. The Sunday Column song of the week

Since I’ve been hanging out in Nova Scotia, Canada, for the past two weeks I feel obligated to bring in a local band for the ’Song of the week’.

Halifax-based April Wine was formed in 1969, but their best song might actually be the cover of Lorence Hud’s ”Sign of the Gypsy Queen”. Check it out!
