Undefeated boxing world champion Patricia Berghult was about to defend her WBC super welterweight title against Cecilia Brækhus on August 13. However, yesterday the Swede received news that the title bout in Cali, Colombia, was postponed.
”Got some bad news tonight. The fight August 13th is postponed. We don’t know much yet. We are hoping for a new fight date. It really sucks but the work don’t stop. We are ready and we are going to be ready again when it’s time. Let’s you know more when we do,” Berghult wrote on Instagram.
The decision to postpone the fight came from nowhere for Patricia Berghult, who recently told Frontkick that she and her team was planning to leave for Colombia by the end of July.
”I was very surprised. All the preperations where done,” Berghult told SVT Sport yesterday. ”The hard part was done, but then we got this information.”
The Swedish champion does not want to speculate when the fight will take place, but hopes to defend her title against Brækhus soon.
”As far as I know, they are trying to find a new date for the fight soon. No new date is booked yet. All I know is that they are making plans for a new date and that they will reach out soon,” Berghult said to SVT Sport.
