Dustin Poirier gives shocking update: ”The last thing I really want to do in this sport”

UFC lightweight star Dustin Poirier will make his 30th fight in the promotion on Saturday as he takes on rising star Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299.

At this point of his career, the veteran and former interim champ claimed he has given up his dreams of winning the undisputed lightweight title, which could come as a shock to many fans considering the 35-year-old American could be just one big win away form a shot at the title.

“The undisputed world championship is like the last thing I really want to do in this sport,” Poirier said. “I feel like I’ve done a lot, not being boastful or anything but I’ve been fighting a long time. This is my 30th fight in the UFC. I’ve come up short, I’ve been victorious,” Poirier said.

Dustin Poirier: ”I try not to look too far”

Almost 40 fights into his pro career, the veteran is happy where he is and what he achieved, especially since he got his big paydays against Conor McGregor in 2021.

”It’s been a long journey. I’m thankful. I’m in a place where I’m content with everything. I’m happy with who I am and the career I’ve had and being able to provide for my family the way that I have. It’s been beautiful. That’s the fight journey.”
