”Frustrated” Shevchenko breaks silence after shocking title loss

At last Saturday’s UFC 285, Alexa Grasso scored a fourth-round submission to take over the 125-pound crown from the dominant flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.

Since then, it’s been quiet from the former champ – until now.

In recent tweets, Shevchenko opened up on the tough loss and promised to reclaim her title in an immediate rematch.

”Thank you everyone for the support! Truly appreciate all of you! In good and bad thank you for being with me. Difficult times built strong people. Martial Arts is my LIFE and I will be back for immediate rematch stronger than ever,” Shevchenko wrote.

Valentina Shevchenko was undefeated at flyweight

The loss at UFC 285 snapped Shevchenko’s nine-fight winning streak dating back to September 2017, when she fell short against Amanda Nunes in their bantamweight title bout.

After the loss, she put together a string off nine straight wins as a flyweight, including seven title defenses.

Alexa Grasso is still undefeated as a flyweight since moving up to the weight class in August 2020. She pulled of five straight wins, including the recent title fight against Valentina Shevchenko.

Since the 35-year-old was such a long-reigning champion, she will most likely get an instant rematch, especially since the UFC and Grasso expressed interest in making it happen.
