Fan favorite Chris Barnett was expected to face Chase Sherman at the stacked UFC 287 this Saturday.
However, it was recently announced that “Beastboy” was forced to pull out of the heavyweight bout due to undisclosed reasons. He was replaced by Karl Williams, who made his UFC debut on March 11 with a unanimous decision win over Lukasz Brzeski.
Sherman is 2-5 in the UFC and comes from a loss against Waldo Cortes-Acosta in November 2022.
Chris Barnett has a professional MMA record of 23-8, with 2-2 in the UFC. He became the name on everyone’s lips after his spectacular spinning wheel kick finish against Gian Villante at UFC 268 in November 2021.
In his most recent outing he faced Jake Collier at UFC 279 in September last year. At the weigh-ins, Barnett weighed in at 267.5 pounds, which is 1.5 pounds over the non-title heavyweight limit and was fined 20% of his purse.
Barnett was knocked down and suffered heavy ground and pound in the first round, but eventually turned things around and won the fight via a second-round TKO.
UFC 287 will take place in Miami on Saturday April 8. The card is headlined by a middleweight championship bout between champion Alex “Poatan” Pereira and former title holder Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya.
