Israel Adesanya? Jon Jones? Jorge Masvidal? All big names, but according to UFC president Dana White, interim flyweight champion Brandon Moreno is one of the most popular fighters in the organization.
“He’s one of the biggest stars that we have,” White said at a recent press conference. “He’s one of the biggest stars on the roster. When we do signings with Brandon Moreno, he’s one of the most popular fighters in the company. He’s your typical durable, badass Mexican fighter.”
Brandon Moreno will face Deiveson Figueiredo again
Last Saturday, Brandon Moreno defeated Kai Kara-France to win the interim flyweight title at UFC 277. In the third round, the Dallas audience saw Moreno land a heavy body kick that dropped Kara-France to the canvas. Shortly after the bout was stopped.
The UFC president was very impressed by the “Assassin Baby’s” performance in the interim title bout.
“You see him come out with the headband like Julio Cesar Chavez the other day, and what does he do? He comes out with the Julio Cesar Chavez headband and then finishes the fight with a body shot. You ever think of that? That’s pretty fucking awesome, to be honest with you,” White said.
Next, Moreno is expected to clash in a title unification bout with champion Deiveson Figueiredo. The long-time rivals currently have one win each, with one fight being a draw, and UFC boss Dana White is positive that the fourth bout will sell big.
