The last year has had its fair share of ups and downs for UFC middleweight Israel Adesanya.

In November 2020, he lost the title to his rival Alex Pereira as he got knocked out in the fifth round. Five months later, Izzy returned to retake what was his, as he knocked out Pereira at UFC 287 in April.

However, short is sweet.

Just hours ago, Adesanya suffered his second title loss in 10 months when massive underdog Sean Strickland put on a performance of a lifetime as he clearly defeated the once so dominant champion on points.

At the post-fight press conference, a quiet Adesanya spoke about the title loss.

“I had a different plan for this. But again, life throws curveballs at you,” Adesanya said. “Win or lose I was not going to say much anyway. Right now I lost to the better man tonight.”

“I want to go chill, have some breakfast and be with my family. To next time,” Adesanya said before leaving to mic to his coach Eugene Bareman.

Could not believe he beat Israel Adesanya

After winning the five-round middleweight title bout on points against the massive betting favorite Israel Adesanya, Sean Strickland could barely understand what he just did.

“Am I fucking dreaming?” the new champion said. “Never in a million years would I thought I’d be here. Izzy’s a bad motherfucker. He’s beat the majority of my friends and even I was kind of doubting myself at times.”
