Popular UFC veteran Matt “The Immortal” Brown announced his retirement from MMA on Saturday. The 43-year-old has been on the roster since 2008, and defeated the likes of Stephen Thompson and Diego Sanchez.
“Not doing it again. I’m out. That’s the announcement,” Brown wrote on Instagram. “My life will now be dedicated to serving others. Growing others in the martial arts and building businesses that can help the community and the world. Thanks to Dana White and UFC for giving me a platform to express myself and my brand but it is time to move on to bigger, better things!”
He retires with a 24-19 overall pro MMA record, including a 17-13 record in the UFC.
Matt Brown holds 13 knockouts in welterweight. That’s the record for the most knockouts in the history of the UFC division. In his last fight he knocked out Court McGee in the first round and got a Performance of the Night bonus.
Brown’s nickname, “The Immortal”, was coined by his friends after his heroin overdose and near death experience.
