UFC 281 just took place in front of a sold out Madison Square Garden in New York City.

In the massive main event, Alex Pereira became the new middleweight champion after finishing Israel Adesanya in the fifth round.

The tension was high in the first round and in the very last seconds, Adesanya had Pereira rocked badly. However, the massive Brazilian was able to recover and came back strong in the second round where he showed proof of his elite kickboxing.

In round three, Adesanya took “Poatan” down and controlled him on the ground. By the fifth round, Pereira needed to knock out his opponent to win, and that is exactly what he did. After rocking Adesanya with a short left hook, he poured it on, and the referee had to step in to stop the fight.

In his fifth professional MMA fight ever, the Brazilian is the new UFC middleweight champion.

”I worked so hard for this,” Pereira said in the post-fight interview.

Zhang Weili is the new strawweight champion

In the co-main event, Zhang Weili defeated Carla Esparza to become strawweight champion once again. Weili submitted Esparza in the second round via rear-naked-choke.

“Today is like a dream come true,” Weili said in the post-fight interview

In the highly anticipated featured lightweight fight, top ranked Dustin Poirier defeated Michael Chandler in a wild and exciting fight.

In the third round, Poirier forced Chandler to tap with a rear-naked-choke.

The Fight of the Night bonus went to Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler.
